Agent Installation and Use

Public Host Monitoring service operates data capturing and resource monitoring through installing Agent on the host to monitor.

Step 1: Obtain installation command

  1. Log in to the Argus Console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Public Host Monitoring.
  3. On the Public Host Monitoring page, in the upper-right corner, select Host Access.
  4. Select your operating system on the Host Access page, and obtain the corresponding installation command.
    Parameter Description

    APP_ID

    When you open host monitoring, the system background will register the tenant automatically, and you can directly use the APP_ID filled in installation command.

    ARGUS_AGENT_ACCESSKEYID

    The tenant AK is used for permission authorization of data reporting, which replaces the “$AK” character string in installation command after obtaining.

    ARGUS_AGENT_ACCESSKEYSECRET

    The tenant SK is used for permission authorization of data reporting, which replaces the “$SK” character string in installation command after obtaining.

    VERSION

    You do not need to change the latest released version of the current Agent, and you can use the version number filled in the installation command.

    Note: Installation command will be downloaded through external address and then be executed. During the installation, the host needs to connect to the Internet, and the current user should have sudo permission.
  5. Click To Create below installation command to obtain tenant AK (ArGUS_AGENT_ACCESSKEYID) and tenant SK (ARGUS_AGENT_ACCESSKEYSECRET).
    Note: You can also click the drop-down menu next to the user’s name in the upper-right corner of the Argus console and select Access Key Information to enter Account Center, then select Access Key to obtain AK and SK information.

Step 2: Obtain installation command

Log in to the host which is needed to be monitored, then replace “$AK” and “$SK” with the access keys of the current account. Then paste and execute the operation command in the host Shell to install Agent.

Step 3: Start service

After the installation of Agent, the service will automatically start, and will be added into start-up programs. The service name is argus-monitor, and the service will run under designated user with the username "pacloud". If the user does not exist, the system will automatically create one.

Note:
  • The default installation directory of Agent is /home/pacloud/argus/monitor, and custom installation directory is not supported currently.
  • The storage position of Agent log is /home/pacloud/argus/common/agent-config.yml. This file marks the information of a customer host, and updating or reinstalling Agent will not delete or modify this file. If the user deletes the file manually, the user must execute the installation command again to report the monitoring data.
