Create a Migration Task

Data migration tasks transmit data between databases. This article describes how to create a data migration task.

Prerequisites

You have successfully created the source and target databases.

Procedures

1.     Create a migration task.

        a)      Log in to the DTS Console.

        b)      In the left navigation pane, click Migration Task to enter the Migration Task Management page.

        c)      Click Create in the upper-right corner of the page to enter the Create Migration Task page.

2.     Configure the source and target databases.

        a)      Configure the source and target databases as described in the following table:

Configuration item

Description

Instance Type

Select types of the source and target databases.

Instance Region

Select regions where the source and target databases are located.

RDS Instance ID

Select instance IDs of the source and target databases.

Database Name

For RDS MySQL databases, you do not need to configure this parameter.

Database Account

Enter account names of the source and target databases.

Database Password

Enter the passwords of the source database account and of the target database account.

        b)      Click Test The Connection to test the connectivity between the source and target databases.

        c)      Click Next Step after the test succeeds.

3.     Configure the migration type.

        a)      Select the target migration objects, for example, tables, views, functions, and procedures.

        b)      Select a migration type.

  • If the target database is empty, you must select Structure Transfer.
  • If you want the migration task to be performed with zero downtime, select Full Migration, Structure Transfer, and Increment Transfer.
  • If you want to migrate only the new data, select Increment Transfer.

        c)      Click the right arrow icon  .

4.     Precheck.

        a)      Click Precheck and Start to enter the Precheck page.

        b)      The system will examine every precheck item. If the precheck fails, modify configuration and run the precheck again until the result is a 100% pass. To troubleshoot a precheck failure, see Troubleshoot Precheck Failures.

        c)      Click Next Step to enter the Migration Configuration page.

5.     Set the specification of the migration channel.

        a)      Select a specification for the migration channel. For more information, see Specifications of Data Migration Channels.

        b)      DTS is at the open beta stage, you can have a free trail.

        c)      Click Purchase and Open to enter the Order Confirmation page and confirm DTS information.

6.     Click Confirm Open.

Result

Method 1:

On the Payment Result page, click View Order to enter the Product Order page. The Status of the target order becomes Finished.

Method 2:

In the left navigation pane, click Migration Task to enter the Migration Task Management page. Select the target region, and you can view the migration task that has been created and its migration progress. This section uses a task that contain structure migration, full migration, and incremental migration as an example. The migration progress is as follows:

  • Structure migration: Finished
  • Full migration: Finished
  • Incremental migration: Not Delayed
